When comparing numbers, children will be using our greater than, less than and equal to symbols.
Here are some examples to explain how the symbols are used.
Greater than and less than. Children usually associate this symbol as being a crocodile's teeth trying to eat the greatest amount.
This is showing that £3.78 is greater (>) than £1.10.
It also shows that £1.10 is less than (<) £3.78
Equal to. Children understand that equals means 'the same as'.
