Hello from the Parklands Eco Team!
We are a small, friendly group of parents, staff and pupils who lead activities within the school to promote environmental issues and ‘being green’.
In 2011 we were awarded our first Eco-Schools Green Flag for our hard work. We earned our second one in 2014. We take part in many national initiatives such as Feed the Birds Day, Switch-Off Fortnight and Waste Week as well as ongoing efforts in school to improve recycling, keep our campus litter-free and learn about wildlife in our gardens.
The highlight of the year is our annual Green Day. In June 2017, we made our very own flower beds and the children took part in small projects such as making bird feeders, upcycling materials to make flowers and decorative stones. Our theme for the day was 'THE OUTBACK' where our children made thier own sourdough and butter from scratch and they cooked it on an open-fire in our wildlife garden! The children learnt how to be self-sufficient and day taught them skills for how to survive in the great outdoors!
The pages below outline exactly what we have done in order to achieve our Green Flag award across lots of different areas! Please have a look!
