The Parklands Eco Team 2023-2024
We are a small group of staff and pupils who lead activities within the school to promote environmental issues and ‘being green’.
In 2011 we were awarded our first Eco-Schools Green Flag for our hard work. Since then, we have been awarded greens in 2014, 2018 and 2020. We have signed up for our Green Flag for 2024 and are working as a team to decide on our three key areas to promote and work on over the year.....watch this space!!
We take part in many national initiatives such as Switch-Off Fortnight and Waste Week as well as ongoing efforts in school to improve recycling, keep our campus litter-free and learn about wildlife in our garden. Each class has signed our Parklands Eco Promise which is proudly displayed in each class.
ECO Team Meeting: Friday 20th October 2023
This year we have decided to focus on three key areas: Biodiversity, Our School Grounds and Healthy Living. We have begun to think about different things we can do from creating a sensory garden, with each class being in charge of their own area, to taking part in the RSPB school bird watch. We are excited to begin this journey working towards Our Eco-Schools Green Flag and accreditation.
ECO Team Christmas Card Challenge 2023
In December the whole school were given a class challenge to save their Christmas cards for recycling. Each class collected as many as they could and together as a whole school we have managed to recycle....... 2, 630.
Class 6 collected the most cards, managing to collect 761, Well done Class 6!
ECO Team Team Meeting: Friday 12th January 2024
We met together and began to make plans for our school bird watch week in February. Each class has been given the name of a british bird to research and we are going to plan some activities around birds.

Our ECO Board Spring 2024
Our Parklands pupils have been busy promoting recycling by creating posters to support Earth Day on Monday 22nd April 2024. Have a look at their wonderful, creative posters.
As an ECO Team we decided we wanted to improve our school grounds and encourage Biodiversity. We had five planters installed on an empty and unused area of grass and are developing each raised planter based on one of the five senses - sight, touch, taste, smell and sounds. We have been lucky to have some plants donated to us by Trent College. These are now planted and we are looking forward to the coming weeks as we watch them grow and attract bees, butterflies and insects. We are going to develop this area further as we think about our senses within these areas, incorporating chimes, edible plants, water and herbs.

We have worked so hard this year and have successfully achieved our ECO award. Well done ECO Team and Parklands Infant and Nursery school......WE DID IT!
We were proud to open some special post in assembly this week. Our ECO Schools flag has arrived and we shared it with the whole school. It will soon be flying high on our mast as we proudly show everyone that we are an ECO School.
We were also proud to be given our own certificates recognising our contributions to the ECO team as we represented our classes in meetings and as we focused on our key areas of Biodiversity with our new sensory garden.
Well done ECO TEAM 2023-2024. Keep up your positivity and pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm for looking after our World to those around you.
